Conservation Corps (15+)

What is the Conservation Corps?

The New Zealand Conservation Corps is a youth development programme for young people aged 16-25.

This programme is a great chance to:

Obtain practical work skills
Learn new life skills and,
Gain confidence and new strengths.

Organised throughout the country, the programmes run for 20 weeks. Each course has between 10-12 participants who complete the programme together. Programmes start in February and July. New Zealand Conservation Corps members work on worthwhile projects that improve and protect our environment. You learn practical conservations skills such as planting native trees and shrubs, upgrading walking tracks, fencing off areas, restoration projects and working in reserves and waterways.

On the courses you do three types of things:

Challenging outdoor recreation
Work experiences through conservation or community work projects
Practical learning, through tailor-made education.

You will be able to take part in a range of activities over the 20 weeks like abseiling, canoeing, caving, kayaking, rafting, rock climbing ,tramping team sports and heaps more.

What's in it for you?

Going on a Corps course could be one of the best things you do. You will get lots of practical skills and work experience. Also, you'll gain a nationally recognised certificate of achievement and potentially some NZAQ units. Most graduates of the programmes get good employment or move on to higher education.

You don't need any qualification to join, and there are no fees to pay.

So what are you waiting for? Just do it!
