Leadership Opportunities
We have a range of leadership opportunities
available from ‘leaders-in-training’ right through
to paid outdoor educator posts. We offer several pathways
from camper to camp staff, with training modules and rewards
along the way.
Leaders-in-training
You need to be 16 years or older. We offer seven modules to complete our Leaders-in-Training certificate. Enthusiasm, adaptability
and willingness to work hard for other people's benefit
are the main qualifications. Some experience either in outdoor
pursuits or in a leadership programme is preferred. Training
and supervision are provided by the leadership coordinator.
You will work to care for and help supervise a group of
campers, alongside a mentor who has responsibility for you.
Your commitment is to attend an overnight training session before camp
and at least 1 Y-camp during the next year. We provide food and accommodation. We also
offer training and social meetings during the year. For more information, contact the Camp Kaitoke office.
Programme
Staff
You need to be 18 years or older. Maturity, reliability
and good judgment are essential. enthusiasm, adaptability
and willingness to work hard for other peoples benefit are
natural parts of your character. You will have a standard
(16 hour) First aid cert, or higher qualification and a
full driver's licence. A strong background in outdoor
pursuits is required, and leadership qualifications are
preferred.
You will work on school and corporate programme's as well
as holiday camps. You will work independently in sole charge
of up to 12 students for outdoor activities and be responsible
to the camp Manager. During school holiday camps you will cooperate with a Vounteer Leader to provide great camp experiences.
Your commitment may be to casual employment, seasonal employment
or full-time employment depending on openings. Contracts
are negotiated after a selection process. We support professional
development where appropriate.
